9 Habits that can halt your Diet

Posted: Feb 20 in Weight Loss Blog tagged by

Maintaining control over your diet is one of the hardest things to accomplish. As part of a successful plan for medical weight management in Baton Rouge, follow these simple tips and avoid these common diet disasters.

  1. Eating in front of the television is a recipe for disaster. It is best to set a time limit or eat just one plate of food instead of snacking for 3 hours.
  2. Buffets are notorious for getting people to overeat. Make it a habit to have good portion control by taking more healthy food and less unhealthy food. Additionally, putting food onto your plate according to food groups will give you the sense that you’re in control.
  3. Completely eliminating all of your favorite foods can make a difficult diet nearly impossible. It is ok to treat yourself in moderation. Have a bite of chocolate instead of an entire piece of cake, for example, to help yourself stay on track with your weight loss goals.
  4. We’ve all eaten lightly during the day while anticipating that decadent dinner at your favorite restaurant. The key is to never arrive at your dining table with an empty stomach and to space out any alcoholic beverages you may be having.
  5. Vacation can be the hardest time to stick to a weight loss plan. Instead of avoiding all of the new tempting food, or overindulging all day, plan on having one meal in which you can enjoy all of the foreign flavors, and spend the rest of the day tasting culture with your eyes, not your gut.
  6. If you travel for work, then make sure and carry healthy food with you so you’re less tempted to stop for a greasy burger and fries.
  7. Eating when stressed can lead to overeating. Keep a journal to remind yourself of the portion sizes you’re consuming.
  8. Carve out time to eat at work. Pack a filling lunch and snacks.
  9. Snacking when tired can lead to overeating. It is best to take a nap or go to bed and skip the pantry raid.
